UWC Activities Offer Something for Everyone

Each fall, members of UWC launch a new round of activities on Sign-Up Day.  Held early in September, the event provides an opportunity to greet friends after a busy summer and to sign up to participate in interest groups.

In mid-September, the Board welcomes new members with a luncheon at the Chancellor's residence. In addition, new members are invited to get better acquainted in small groups gatherings held in the homes of veteran members sometime in the fall or early winter.

Interest groups usually begin meeting in October and continue into the following May. Most meet monthly, others weekly, and still others keep a different schedule entirely. Any UWC member may join any interest group--or can organize a new one!

One interest group goes on outings to area museums and points of interest each month. Other women meet to walk together every week. Many join a book discussion or a book exchange. Groups of gardeners, antique lovers, birdwatchers, and history buffs get together regularly. Those who love games can play bridge, mah jongg, or Scrabble. Groups go to movies together or meet to chat over needlework projects. And there are numerous occasions to enjoy food and drink--informal potlucks, come-as-you-are breakfasts, and evening wine and appetizer gatherings.

In October, November, December, February, March, and April, members of UWC get together in the Malott Room of the Kansas Memorial Union to socialize, hear a program, and enjoy a luncheon. Recipients of scholarships are introduced at the April gathering. The annual meeting takes place during the April program as well.

The luncheons are typically held on the first Thursday of the month.  Reservations are required.
